What You Need

Just a handful of delicious ingredients are needed to make this simple no-bake Christmas Slice.

Peppermint Christmas Slice (3)
  • Sweetened condensed milk - gives this slice sweetness and chewiness, while also helping it to set in the fridge. I recommend using full-fat, sweetened condensed milk such as Nestle brand, as it will set the slice firmer than low or reduced fat condensed milk.
  • Butter - is used to help firm and set the slice when cooled. I recommend using butter, rather than margarine or butter substitutes. Salted or un-salted butter is fine depending on what you have on hand.
  • Peppermint extract - just a couple of drops for extra mint flavour
  • Plain, sweet biscuits (cookies) - I use Arnott’s Marie or Arrowroot biscuits, but any plain, sweet biscuit will do. To crush the biscuits, you can use a food processor, Thermomix, or even crush them with the end of a rolling pin.
  • Cocoa powder
  • Cadbury Peppermint filled chocolate - or the same quantities of any other peppermint filled milk chocolate.
  • Milk chocolate - is used to top the slice. Choose a good quality milk chocolate for best results. I recommend Cadbury or Lindt chocolate.
  • Peppermint Candy Canes - add a little crunch and lovely peppermint flavour. You could also use crushed peppermint boiled lollies.
  • M&M's - pick out the green and red for that special festive look.

Expert Tips & FAQs

Follow my simple tips for the perfect chocolate peppermint Christmas slice!

Crushing the biscuits

The biscuits can be crushed in a food processor or Thermomix if you have one. Alternatively, they can be crushed by adding them to a large bowl or bag and using a rolling pin to flatten them until they have a fine, crumb-like texture.

How long does it take for slice to set?

This Christmas slice needs to set in the fridge for a minimum of 3-4 hours (or overnight) before slicing. Allow the slice to come to room temperature before cutting into pieces. If you need it in a hurry, you can speed up the setting process by putting it in the freezer for an hour.

Cutting perfect slices

To cut the slice without cracking the chocolate, remove the slice from the fridge for at least 30 minutes before cutting. This will allow the chocolate to soften slightly, which will prevent it from cracking. Read here for more tips on how to cut perfect slices.

Storing

This slice will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Can I freeze Christmas slice?

This slice can be frozen whole, or in pieces for up to 2 months. To freeze, cover the set slice in baking paper and in an airtight container. Please note that when frozen, the colour in the M&Ms will fade slightly. To thaw, leave the slice at room temperature for an hour, or place it into the fridge overnight before serving.
